Orbis · Wall Sconce

Light, cupped in bronze.

A single turned cylinder cradles an opal glass globe and folds its glow inward — soft light, with the weight of solid metal behind it.

The idea

Most sconces throw light at a wall. This one holds it, then hands it back gently.

Rather than leaving the bulb exposed, we set it deep inside a bronze cylinder. The light lingers and folds against the walls, its harsh edge filtered away, so only the soft part reaches the room around you — and when lit, the dark interior takes on a warm amber cast.

Unlit

A matte shell that recedes

The whole body wears a deep espresso bronze — low-sheen, fingerprint-resistant, dark enough to read as a shadow on the wall until the light comes on. It's in no hurry to be seen; it simply waits for the moment it lights up.

Lit

Walls that catch the glow

The same espresso interior turns a warm amber under light. The glow lingers deep in the cylinder, folds back, and is softened before it spills into the room — so the light reaching the space is gentler and warmer than the bulb alone, born of light playing across the inner walls.

Materials

Only materials that age well

A light is something that stays on your wall for years. So from the start we chose materials that hold up over time: an aircraft-grade aluminium frame and hand-blown glass. Nothing plasticky, nothing cheap — they only gain character with use.

Espresso bronze · shell

Anodised aluminium, not paint

The color is grown into the metal's surface through anodising, not floated on top as a coat of paint. So it won't chip like a sprayed finish or fade in the sun — the deep espresso tone stays true for years.

Espresso interior · glow

Inside and out, the same finish

The interior wears the same espresso surface as the shell — it isn't a second metal. It's precisely this deep matte inner wall that softens the light when lit and casts a warm amber tone, turning direct glare into something gentle.

Opal glass · shade

A hand-blown opal globe

Each globe is blown by hand, and its opal body spreads the light evenly across the whole sphere. What you see is a soft disc of light — not a harsh, glaring point.

Structure · hardware

A concealed, integrated backplate

The backplate sits flush with the body as one piece, with the hardware tucked inside. All that's left on the wall is a clean circle — no extra brackets, no exposed wiring.

How it's made

Turned, anodised, and finished by hand

Every body starts as a solid billet of aluminium and passes through four stages before it earns its globe. Nothing here is a stamped, hollow shell.

01

CNC turning

A single aluminium billet is turned on the lathe into one seamless cylinder — no joins, no welds on the body.

Process · billet on the lathe
02

Anodised coloring

The whole piece is anodised, growing the espresso tone into the metal's surface — consistent inside and out, and built to last.

Process · anodising bath
03

Hand finishing

Edges and the front lip are deburred and polished by hand until the rim feels rolled to the touch, not cut.

Process · hand-finishing the rim
04

Assembly & testing

The opal globe is seated and wired, and every unit is lit and inspected before it's boxed and shipped.

Process · final light test

Details

The good part is in the details

The globe

Opal glass, no glare

The hand-blown opal globe diffuses the source evenly across its whole surface. Look straight at it and you see a soft disc of light, not a searing filament — comfortable at eye level, by the bed, or down a hallway.

Diffused, not dimmed — the output isn't cut, yet it's a light you'll happily sit beside.

Depth

The globe, set inside

The globe sits back within the cylinder, shielded from the side. So the light emerges from within its own shadow — quietly dramatic when off, soft when on, and never a direct glare as you pass by.

Mounting

Flush to the wall, two fixings

A concealed backplate sits flat against the wall, held by two exposed screws — one on each side — for a secure, steady fit. It mounts in any orientation and reads clean from every angle, with no extra hardware to clutter the form. Vertical or horizontal, it's up to you.

Light & setting

A light made to be approached

Because it doesn't glare, it can go where you'll linger and where it meets you at eye level. Soft, warm light that tunes a space toward calm.

Bedside setting

Beside the bed

A glare-free bit of warmth before sleep, in place of a cold ceiling light, letting the bedroom settle.

Hallway setting

Entry & hallway

Flush to the wall so it never crowds the passage, leading you home along a warm trail of light.

Living room setting

By the sofa

As a layer of ambient light beyond the main fixture, giving a reading corner a soft, easy glow.

FAQ

What you might be wondering

Can it be mounted horizontally, or only vertically?

Either way. The concealed backplate supports any orientation — vertical, horizontal, or any angle keeps the same clean look. Choose whatever suits your wall and flow.

Does it include a bulb? Can I swap it?

It comes with one opal diffusing globe. The socket is a standard G9, so you're free to swap in your own bulb of the same type; the dark matte interior softens the light, and the ambience is especially warm with a warm-white bulb.

Will it glare? Is it right for a bedside?

No. The globe is opal-diffused and set inside the cylinder, shielded from the side, so even head-on it's just a soft wash of light. That's exactly why it suits bedsides and hallways, where it meets you at eye level.

Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?

It's intended for dry, indoor spaces. It isn't designed for damp or outdoor environments — shower zones, open-air settings and the like are outside its scope.
